sometimes we question Gods choices and why he would choose us to be in the place that we are. sometimes we think that God made the wrong choice by placing us in a certain position and we think that we know a better place that we should be. In Exodus 3:11, Moses is taking to God and asks, “Who am I to go before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”. Moses is asking God why he picked him to complete this seemingly impossible task. This is something that I spend a lot of time talking to God about, why he has placed me here or why he has given me tasks that I don’t know how to complete. The truth about that question is, you are not the perfect person for the task, and you alone will not be able to complete it. God does not use us because he needs us. He uses us because he loves us and he wants to interact with us and help us grow. We should not be asking who am i to do this. we should be asking who is God and which of his characteristics will show up to help us through. The answer to that question is he is faithful, he is merciful, he is sovereign, he is gracious, he is just, and he is good. he is enough for us to lean on if we never have anything else that we think we need. We are not enough but he is. We know that God will never waiver in his promises but we forget that he promises that he is always there and that he is always beside you.

I have found that if you ask God to show you who he is when you are doubting and if you stop focusing on yourself, you will see him move.

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.”

  1. Hi Emily! Love what you wrote and what you are learning about God and yourself. Living so far from my family, I have asked myself the same question many times: Lord, why here? I have learned (and have had to relearn It over and over) that when you are where God wants you to be, it really is the most satisfying. He has never not been what I need. When I’m lonely, he’s my Friend. Homesick – my Father. Doubtful, scared, or worried – my Confidence, my Protector, my Provider. I’m so glad you are learning this about Him. It will carry you through anything. Trust Him in the dark; obey Him in the light! I love you! Praying for you and your team.

  2. Emily I love your heart for Jesus, you are such an inspiration, I know that God is using you were ever you are and go. Jeremiah 29:11 he has a plan for you and me all he wants is our obedience, and that you have my sweet girl, you are so open to leading of the Holy Spirit! Praying for you and looking forward to talking with you in the future so we can share!

  3. I love hearing how you are growing in your relationship with God & learning to seek Him first. I pray for you constantly as you finish your time in Black Mountain and look forward to traveling to Guatemala. Continue to ask God to reveal Himself to you in every situation! I love you SO much ??

  4. Emily-such a great blog! I especially like this part, “God does not use us because he needs us. He uses us because he loves us and he wants to interact with us and help us grow. We should not be asking who am i to do this. we should be asking who is God and which of his characteristics will show up to help us through.” Such truth lady! I also really like the Psalm you choose. I have never read it in the Living Bible and it is great!
